DEJA have spent almost three years getting their hands dirty in the fastidious pursuit of finely crafted pop music. 2011 saw the band playing live shows relentlessly, scoring slots at both Parklife and the Boroughs, releasing two singles and numerous remixes, DJing all across Melbourne as well as working with other bands in their home studio. This might all sound a bit hectic, but the duo are just getting started.
With the arrival of 2012 comes 'Atrophy’- the anticipated first single from DEJA's forthcoming debut LP. Created in the band's home studio and mixed by renowned producer Scott Horscroft, the song takes its cues from the forefront of electronic/pop music from around the globe. A haunting marriage of dark vocals and growling bass lines over a galloping beat, it is the first showcase of what these young producers have to offer.
So we’ve been working on a pretty chronic remix for Kimbra’s upcoming remix competition. Here’s some footage of Jack jamming a counter melody for you - sorry for all the mistakes. #hipstersonsynths
Check out this awesome shot taken by the very talented Ali Mitton…We went to QLD last week for an interview and fun 50s inspired shoot. Pastel pink dreams to the max <3 <3 C
Above is a preview of the remix I’m working on for Cosmo Black’s next single “Break Before You Bend”. Can you tell that I’ve been working on my drops - pretty sure this one is big. haha!
Been so fucking busy since our single launch! Our next single ‘Lights’ is now finished. This week we will be finishing the next 3 songs on our album.
Hard work, but we can’t wait to share it all with you.
xxxxx
Some stop motion footage that our band photographer Woodrow Wilson took last night at our single launch. We will be editing more of the footage together to make something cool for you to watch :) Thanks so much to everyone that came out!!
I figured I’d keep all of the online press for our new single ‘Atrophy’ here in one convenient location. Should become a more complete list as the weeks go on.
Thanks so much to all of the blogs/people that take the time to listen to new music. We really appreciate it.
Alfitude ”I‘m really, really loving this electronic/indie sound from Melbourne based duo DEJA”
Auspop ”A gorgeous little electro pop track”
Aerial Noise ”Enjoying ‘Atrophy’ from beginning to end comes ever so naturally.”
Golden Scissors“This catchy electro-pop jam’s features a summery chorus but a dark breakdown just to mix it up. Bonus? Its got an awesome music video with it to give you a story to go along with the track. Not bad for an act producing out of a home studio”
Allure of Sound “Atrophy” is a perfect introduction to a band that has a lot of potential. I am really looking forward to their debut album.”
Bigger Than Beyonce ”Whoa! This video is CRAZY…good! Electro pop has never been so creepy and neurotic. And I love it.”
Dingus“DEJA deserves the real fist bumping for their ability to give the man exactly what he wants, something to make all the monkeys dance- and dance they shall”
Dirty Word“WORK. OF. ART.”
Me And All My Friends“It’s some pretty dark dance pop that these peeps are doing. And doing it rather fine may I add! The clip is also rather amazing. If some pretty dark footage of babes is your thing, then give it a view!”
We are really excited about releasing the song/video clip for ‘Atrophy’. We’ve fuckin slaved over this song and video clip. Claire and I were joking about how many accumulated hours we’ve spent on both together this morning. I don’t even wanna think about it really because it seems truly ridiculous. Hopefully there are some people out there that are really going to feel our new direction and sound.
Putting on a huge show at The Toff on the 18th of March. Shit is going to be bubonic. Now that we’ve got the film clip finished we can focus on making our live show as good as possible. Gonna try and make it a bit more intense and incorporate a few more visual elements. Should definitely be worth your $10. Plus we’re putting on one of the best new DJ’s (Smoking Toddlers) and upcoming singer songwriters (Yuko Nishiyama).
Spending this afternoon bouncing out audio stems for our next song. It’s called ‘Lights’ and we’re super excited about it. Got a cool string section and some strong hooks. Excited to see how Scott Horscroft mixes this one. He did a fucking amazing job with ‘Atrophy’.
I think that pretty much covers everything going on in our neck of the woods. Will try to write more stuff down as it happens.
Much love to you all. Hope 2012 brings you whatever you want!

Here is an outtake from our clip shoot. I’m definitely not going to be the next big Australian actor. #sticktothemusicbuddy
Hello dear ones- Claire here.
So I am sitting in a dark room with my laptop listening to our first single, ‘Atrophy’, over and over again, working out the plot and the scenes/shots for the song’s videoclip.
It is hard work. We have never made a video clip before, so the pressure is on. I want it to be compelling and beautiful and gritty all rolled into one, without being contrived or wanky. TOUGH STUFF.
Having never done this before it is extremely hard to have perspective. I am just hoping that what is going on in my head translates well, both for the song and for you guys- the audience!
Wish me luck x
Stay tuned…
Yo! We are gonna be DJing at this epic warehouse party.
Several bands playing - so it should be the blurst of times.
